| Fully refurbished in recent years, the 4 star Grand Hotel is one
of the finest hotels on Lake Como. Located on the lakeside in
Cadenabbia the large historic Grand has commanding views over the
lake and Bellagio. All the en-suite bedrooms are well sized,
elegantly furnished and equipped with air conditioning, telephone,
hairdryer, safe and satellite TV. The public areas are spacious and
include a rooftop bar, terrace and restaurant all offering
spectacular views across the lake. |
| ITINERARY |
| MONDAY A leisurely start
to our holiday as we depart our local area mid morning and travel to
the port of Hull with a lunch break on route before embarking on our
overnight North Sea Ferries cruise-ferry to Rotterdam and the
continent. All cabins have been upgraded to outside cabins with two
low floor beds. (please note single cabins are inside cabins). Full
buffet dinner and breakfasts are included on our return sailings.
Relax and enjoy the ship’s entertainment and facilities as you
cruise to mainland Europe. |
| TUESDAY After breakfast on board ship we
disembark and travel through Holland and into Germany where we
journey through the magnificent Rhine Valley and Gorge, a wonderful
drive through pretty towns dominated by picturesque hillside castles
overlooking the river. We break for lunch in one of the popular
tourist towns before continuing on to our overnight destination in
Karlsruhe where buffet dinner will be served. |
| WEDNESDAY Departing the hotel today our
relaxing journey takes us from Germany into magnificent Swiss alpine
scenery to Lucerne where we break for lunch and sightseeing in one
of the world’s prettiest cities, set on the banks of Lake Lucerne.
Later today we continue through the Gotthard Tunnel crossing the
border into Italy before arriving on the shores of Lake Como late
afternoon for check in to the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia, our home for
the next 5 nights. |
| THURSDAY Today is a day at leisure giving you
the chance to explore the town of Cadenabbia or take the ferry
across to the famous town of Bellagio, known as the ‘Pearl of Como’
with its wonderful cafes, bars and chic shops. A circular round trip
ticket will also take you to the towns of Menaggio and Varenna on
opposite sides of the lake. Alternatively, located a very short walk
from the hotel are the beautiful home and gardens of Villa
Carlotta. |

| FRIDAY An
early start today for what is sure to be one of the
highlights of our holiday as we travel to the north of
the Lake and to the town of Tirano. Here we leave our
coach and board the famous Bernina Express for an
unforgettable train journey through a scenic spectacle
of snow-capped Alps, lush flowery meadows, sundrenched
fields and deep green forests. It takes a little over
two hours to reach the resort of St Moritz where we have
free time to explore one of the world’s most famous
holiday resorts with a chic and elegant “champagne
atmosphere”. Later this afternoon we return to Lake Como
by coach in time for dinner. |

| TUESDAY Sadly
we say goodbye to Chamonix and travel through the French
countryside and onto the capital city of Paris, breaking
for lunch on route.Our base for 2 nights is the 4 star
Millennium Hotel Charles de Gaulle, situated to the
north of Paris offering excellent facilities. 3 course
dinner is included this evening. |
| SUNDAY Today
we take a drive into the hills surrounding Lake Como and
over to the beautifully situated town of Lugano lying in
a bay of Lake Lugano surrounded by numerous mountains
and viewpoints. The traffic-free town centre has
Mediterranean-style squares and numerous parks with
sub-tropical plants whilst the shores of the lake invite
you to take it easy and just soak up the atmosphere or
take a gentle walk along the promenade |
| MONDAY
Unfortunately it is time to depart the shores of Lake
Como and head back through the Alps and into Germany
travelling through the Black Forest with visits on
route, to our last evening on the continent at our
overnight night hotel in Germany. Buffet dinner included
this evening. |
| TUESDAY This
morning we continue our homeward journey through Germany
and on to Rotterdam for the overnight cruise-ferry to
back to England. Cabins as outward journey and buffet
dinner included. |
| WEDNESDAY On
arrival back into Hull we take a leisurely drive home
breaking for lunch before arriving into to
Northumberland around mid-afternoon. |
